He was honored with numerous prestigious awards, including the Padma Bhushan, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and more recently, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. A legendary actor, he was equally active in the theater. In recent years, his portrayal of the title role in \u003cem\u003eKing Lear\u003c\/em\u003e was highly praised.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSoumitra was also a master of the spoken arts. His journey into poetry began in his adolescence. In his youth, he co-edited the literary magazine \u003cem\u003eEkakshan\u003c\/em\u003e with Nirmalya Acharya. Despite his busy schedule, he regularly composed poetry.
