Nirendranath started writing poetry in his childhood, and besides poetry collections, he also authored books on poetry, novels, and travelogues.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHe is well-known for his famous book \u003cem\u003eBangla: Ki Likben, Keno Likben\u003c\/em\u003e (Bengali: What to Write, Why to Write), which discusses language, style, and literary techniques. Among his awards are the \u003cem\u003eUlto-Rath\u003c\/em\u003e Award (1958), \u003cem\u003eTarashankar\u003c\/em\u003e Award (1973), \u003cem\u003eSahitya Akademi Award\u003c\/em\u003e (1974), and the \u003cem\u003eAnanda\u003c\/em\u003e Award (1976). He was the President of the \u003cem\u003eWest Bengal Bengali Academy\u003c\/em\u003e from 2004 to 2011 and was elected as a Fellow of the \u003cem\u003eSahitya Akademi\u003c\/em\u003e in 2016. He received the \u003cem\u003eIndira Gandhi Gold Medal\u003c\/em\u003e from the \u003cem\u003eAsiatic Society\u003c\/em\u003e in 2015 and was awarded honorary doctorates from the University of Kolkata (2007), Bardhaman University (2008), and Kalyani University (2010).\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1975, at the invitation of Kolkata University, he delivered a lecture series titled \u003cem\u003eKobitar Ki o Keno\u003c\/em\u003e (What and Why of Poetry), which was later published as a book. He traveled abroad frequently and represented India as the only delegate at the \u003cem\u003eWorld Poet Conference\u003c\/em\u003e in Liège in 1990.
