The Good Reporter tells the remarkable story of Khabar Lahariya, a newspaper and later digital news platform founded by rural women in the feudal regions of Uttar Pradesh in 2002.

Despite facing barriers such as limited education, social exclusion, caste and gender discrimination, and economic hardship, these women set out to create and run their own local newspaper. Over the years, Khabar Lahariya expanded across districts and states and evolved into India's first hyperlocal digital news channel entirely run by women.

Through the voices and memories of ten women journalists, the book explores their personal and professional journeys—their struggles, successes, contradictions, and the emotional and social costs of challenging deeply entrenched norms. It is also a portrait of a changing rural India and the transformative power of journalism and women's agency.
