Echo of the Abyss is a psychologically intense speculative novel that explores humanity’s deepest fear—death and mortality—through the disturbing journey of Anant Vohra, an interior designer haunted by the fear of losing the people he loves.
After his uncle’s death, Anant creates an imaginary retreat where death does not exist, using it as an escape from the anxieties of reality. However, his refuge becomes increasingly dangerous when he encounters a mysterious entity known as the “Resident.” As the boundaries between reality and imagination begin to collapse, Anant struggles to distinguish what is real, while the Resident and his own subconscious appear to gain control over his life.
Alongside Anant’s story, the novel examines how different people attempt to confront or escape mortality through love, work, art, lineage, achievement and fantasy. It ultimately raises philosophical questions about whether human beings can truly overcome their fear of death—or whether accepting mortality is an essential part of being human.
