The Correspondent by Virginia Evans [Paperback]

The novel follows 73-year-old Sybil Van Antwerp, a witty and reflective woman who is gradually losing her sight and communicates with the world through letters. She writes to her children, authors, doctors, neighbours, former family members and even people investigating her past. Beneath these often humorous and thoughtful letters lies a painful secret from the darkest period of her life.

There is one letter Sybil has never sent—a letter connected to her past and the guilt she still carries. To finally send it, she must confront what happened, come to terms with herself, and find forgiveness. The novel explores ageing, memory, regret, forgiveness, family, loneliness and the possibility of new beginnings later in life, with warmth and humour.
