Galpasangraha by Sukumar Sen [Hardcover]

The esteemed professor of Bengali language and literature, Sukumar Sen, is renowned for his profound scholarship. Over time, he has written several detective stories. Interestingly, his detective character is the great poet Kalidasa, and he set the stories in the first two centuries AD. We know many tales of Kalidasa's wit and intelligence from folk stories and rhymes. Sukumar Sen noted that if detective stories had existed earlier, India would have had excellent detective tales from those times.

Now, a collection of five storybooks by Sukumar Sen, which went unnoticed by readers, has been published as "Galposangraha." The blend of mythology and history alongside mystery gives these stories a unique stature. Unlike foreign detective stories, his stories are infused with the essence of ancient Indian culture and heritage. The author himself stated that comparing his Kalidasa to modern detectives like those from New Scotland Yard, Surete, or Crime Squad is inappropriate.
